Moving in
The company from the last house may not serve the next one. Here is how to tell a real transfer from a new registration.
Moving is when people either keep a provider or discover they cannot. Utility Connect handles that differently depending on the service. In a deregulated electricity market we compare plans and set up the one you choose on the call. Internet, TV, security, home warranty, and the other non-local services are set up the same way. Gas, water, trash, and electricity in a regulated market are not shopped into an order by us. We find who serves the address and send you the information. You enroll.
A transfer is real when the same company serves both addresses and their process moves your account or your remaining term. You still have to request it. For a local utility, that request is your call to them, with the new start date and a stop date at the old address. For a service we set up, we handle the new start with you on the call, and you still need to stop the old account with that provider if it will not close on its own.
Ask whether the old rate survives. Many "transfers" are a stop and a start, with a new deposit and a new offer. If the rate changes, you are shopping, even if the logo is familiar.
Choice markets, city limits, and internet networks do not care that you liked the last provider. If they do not serve the new premise, there is nothing to transfer. For deregulated electric and internet, we set up a provider that does serve it, with you on the call. For water, trash, gas, and regulated electric, the notes name the one that does, and you enroll with them. Staying loyal to a company outside the territory will not move the line.
Half-finished applications become real accounts more often than people expect. Choose once.
There is often nothing to compare. The water district is the water district. The notes exist so you call the right office, not so you can pick a cheaper city. If a regulated utility and a lookalike brand both appear in your inbox from old ads, use the notes. Enroll with the one that serves the meter.
The household is not billed by Utility Connect. You pay the companies you choose. You are not required to take a particular internet plan or a particular deregulated electric offer. If you want to keep a company that can serve the new address, say so on the call and we will set that up when it is one of the services we set up. If it is a local utility, the notes will show you their number and you will enroll.
Shopping or setting up the new address does not close the old accounts. Give each current provider a stop date that matches the day you surrender the keys. Do that the same day as the new start so the dates mirror each other.
Ask that provider. Some credit it, some refund it after a final bill. We will not see a city utility's internal credit.
Yes. Overlap of a day is normal. Overlap of a month is a bill you chose.
It might be. You will hear that on the call before we set it up, which is the point of doing it before move-in weekend.
How to read the local notes is in what is in the information we send.
